Is therapy right for me?
Some people participate in therapy in order to feel “happier,” others want to develop tools to manage stressors, and many are looking for a space to feel seen. I believe that everyone benefits from having someone in their life that truly sees them - someone that provides space for all of their parts, listens to the unspoken messages, and is caring and non-judgmental. That being said, only you will know if therapy is right for you. Consult calls are a great first step that can help you to decide.

What should I expect?
Therapy is different for each person. I offer a free 20-minute phone consultation so we can assess for good fit - you can ask me questions to see if I am a good fit for you as well! After good fit is established, we will set up an initial appointment. In those first few sessions, I will be asking questions to better understand where you are coming from and where you want to go. Some people know exactly what they want to work on and others just have a sense that they “should” be in therapy…all (and everything else) is welcomed!

Will what we talk about be confidential?
Therapy should be a safe space for you to explore your thoughts and feelings, work on goals, and even examine life’s big questions. That being said, there are a few instances in which what is discussed is not confidential. For safety reasons, this includes: reports of abuse and/or neglect of children, elderly, and people with disabilities; plans to harm yourself and/or plans to harm someone else; and abuse, neglect, and/or unprofessional conduct committed by another mental health professional and/or treatment center.

Do you accept insurance?
After years of being paneled with insurance companies, I have found that the constraints placed on therapy by insurance can hinder the therapeutic relationship and work. Some of the constraints include but are not limited to: a required mental health diagnosis, rigidity with regard to duration and frequency of sessions, mandatory insurance-approved interventions, pathology-driven treatment planning, and access to clinical notes by the insurance. As a result, I have chosen to be an out-of-network (OON) provider. Superbills are provided for those wanting to use their OON benefits.

How often will we meet?
In general, weekly therapy is recommended in order to make consistent progress toward your goals. Especially at the beginning of our therapeutic relationship, it is helpful for us to meet weekly in order to build rapport and understand the breadth of who you are and what you want to work on. Together, we will determine if it’s appropriate to continue meeting weekly or transition to a less frequent recurring appointment. Previous clients have the option to meet for the occasional check-in that can be scheduled on an as-needed basis.
